Kellogg's recalls Eggo waffles due to bacteria concerns

Battle Creek-based Kellogg Co. is recalling about 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles because the products might be contaminated with bacteria.

The Kellogg Company issued a voluntary recall Monday for 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles due to listeria concerns.

On Monday, the company said it is voluntarily recalling the waffles because they might contain Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause health problems in young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, among othersRecalled products were distributed to customers in 25 states including Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. No other Kellogg's or Eggo-branded products are affected by the recall.

Kellogg's said it has not received any reports of illnesses "but is taking this action as part of its commitment to the health and safety of the people who eat its foods."

The affected waffles are the 10 count, 12.3 ounce containers of the product with expiration dates between Nov. 21 and Nov. 22, 2017.

Kellogg's is asking that consumers who purchased affected products to discard them and to contact the company for a refund. To do so, consumers can call 1-800-962-1413 or visit the company online at kelloggs.com/en_US/contact-us.html.
