The city of Battle Creek said it has closed a portion of the Linear Park path because of a yellowjacket infestation.

Areas where nests are found will be sprayed, according to a news release. Communications specialist Jessica VanderKolk said a licensed professional determined the insects were yellowjackets and advised against relocating them.

The path is closed from the point it enters the wooded area near Wagner Drive, to the clearing as the path enters Bailey Park, near ANYbodies Playground. The nests were found near the clearing but no wasps have been found at or near the playground, according to the release.

The city said it will issue updates after the wasps have been removed and the path is reopened.
