ROBBERY AND SHOOTING: Six Grand Rapids teenagers, aged 16 to 19, are at the Calhoun County jail Sunday morning, held on charges of assault with intent to murder and armed robbery after their arrests late Saturday. Battle Creek police said they were called at 9:49 p.m. by a 22-year-old Battle Creek man who said he had been robbed at gunpoint of his $2,000 Cartier sunglasses in the parking lot of Nick's Westside gas station at 420 W. Michigan Ave. The suspects fled, and the victim pursued the robbers as he called 911. Police said the pursuit continued until the suspects stopped near Brizse Avenue and Parkridge Drive and one of them fired at least five times at the victim, hitting his car several times. The suspects then fled again and the driver continued to pursue until the dispatcher was able to persuade him to stop. Police said they found the suspects at a dead-end street where they were arrested. Officers said they found ammunition in the car but believe the gun was thrown and was not found. Police recovered the sunglasses from the purse of one of the two females in the car. No injuries were reported.
