Mosaic feeds the spirit

Battle Creek Enquirer

SPRINGFIELD -- To borrow a pun from Michael McCullough, executive editor and content strategist for the Enquirer, Battle Creek was "ripe" for another storytelling event.

The second Mosaic Storytelling Showcase filled the room with more than 200 guests at the Burma Center in Springfield.

Food was the topic of the night. Stories had flavors from all over the world: Afghanistan, Brazil, Thailand, Panama and a farm north of Hastings. But some themes are universal, and audience members nodded their heads when Nicole Mullis talked about navigating the politics of a family who can't agree on what to eat or Silvana Russell's despair over pots and pans that were out to get her. There was laughter and applause and noises of sympathy.

Performers were Nicole Mullis, Donna Teichman, Peecoon Allen, Jake Wolverton, Silvana Russell, George Martinez, Susan Glidden, Charles Rose, Maryann Angelo, Meredith Stravers and Jeremy Andrews. Sean Washington emceed for the night.

The next Mosaic Storytelling Showcase will be Aug. 2 with the theme of "memories." If you're interested in telling a story, email mosaic@battlecreekenquirer.com or call Michael McCullough at 966-0670.
