Meet the 2015 Enquirer All-Area Football Team

The Enquirer All-Area Football Team is made up of members of the non-city, area schools in the Enquirer readership area and selected based on nominations from area coaches and the Enquirer sports staff:

Noah Briggs

Bellevue

A third-year starter at Bellevue and in his second year as a team captain, Briggs had a big junior season as a two-way player for the Broncos, which went 3-5 on the season.

Briggs led the team in tackles with 100 on the season, including six tackles for loss, while he also played guard on the offensive line for a young and improving Broncos team.

"Noah is exactly the type of player you want in your system. He is committed to making our team better and is a good leader," Bellevue coach Joe Costello said.

Kyle Roberts

Bronson

Roberts was voted team MVP as he helped Bronson to a 3-6 season as a standout running back during his senior season.

Roberts earned all-league first-team honors at running back with 1,061 yards for an average of 10.4 yards per carry.

"A great combination of strength and speed in this young man. He is the kind of running back that only comes around about every decade," Bronson coach Daniel Burzynski said.

Luke Beckhusen

Coldwater

Beckhusen helped Coldwater to an historic season, as the team had the most wins in school history, going 12-1 and advancing to the state semifinals in Division 3. The senior was a standout two-way player at quarterback and defensive back, earning all-league honors in the Interstate 8 Conference.

Beckhusen rushed for 865 yards and 10 touchdowns and threw for three more scores. On defense, he had a team-high 68 tackles and interception for a touchdown.

"Luke is one of the most complete athletes that I have ever coached. He can do it all," Coldwater coach Jeff Schorfhaar said.

Spencer Burns

Coldwater

Burns helped Coldwater to an historic season, as the team had the most wins in school history, going 12-1 and advancing to the state semifinals in Division 3. The two-way player was all-league at running back and also was a key player on defense at linebacker.

Burns rushed for 1,040 yards and a team-high 14 touchdowns.

"Spencer was the most consistent running back we had. Whether it was blocking or running the ball," Schorfhaar said.

Sam DeMeester

Coldwater

DeMeester had a big junior season for Coldwater, helping the Cardinals to their first league title since the 1980s as the team went undefeated in the regular season and 12-1 overall. DeMeester was a standout two-way player at fullback and linebacker, earning all-league honors.

DeMeester rushed for 1,030 yards and nine touchdowns and was second on the team in tackles with 60 with three interceptions.

"Sam is the hardest working kid on our team. Everyone's goal is to try to emulate Sam as best as you can because no one can out work him," Schorfhaar said.

Brandon Lewis

Coldwater

Lewis had a big season for Coldwater, helping the Cardinals to their first league title since the 1980s as the team went undefeated in the regular season and 12-1 overall. A strong running team, Lewis was a big part of the offensive line from his tight end position, while also being a key member of the Coldwater defense at linebacker.

Lewis had 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks on defense and, 'was the main tight end we ran most of our yards behind on offense this season and one of the hardest hitters we have had in Coldwater," according to Schorfhaar.

Brayton Rzepka

Coldwater

Rzepka helped Coldwater to an historic season, as the team had the most wins in school history, going 12-1 and advancing to the state semifinals in Division 3. The two-way player played on both sides of the line and was named all-conference at his tackle position.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound tackle gave the Cardinals much-needed size in the running game as he, "opened the holes for Spencer Burns to get most of his yards and for a big guy he has great footwork and rarely missed an assignment," according Schorfhaar.

Gabe Keely

Colon

Keely was a key all-purpose player on offense and a standout on defense as he helped Colon advance to the playoffs for the second straight season as the Magi went 6-4 overall.

A team captain, Kelly earned all-conference honors on defense with 57 tackles and two interceptions during his senior season. On offense, Keely set a school record for yards in a game and finished with 1,379 all-purpose yards on the season with 15 touchdowns.

"Gabe is a great kid all around. He matured on the field this season as a person. He did a lot for us on the field. A very soft spoken and respectful young man," Colon coach Richard Roth said.

Brett Prell

Colon

Prell was a key player on offense, defense and special teams as he helped Colon advance to the playoffs for the second straight season as the Magi went 6-4 overall.

A team captain, Prell earned all-conference honorable mention honors at three positions, punter, defensive end and tight end as he finished with 68 tackles on defense, including 12 tackles for loss, and had 264 yards on offense with three touchdowns.

"Brett is by far the athlete we will miss most next season. He did a lot for us on the defensive side of the ball. He flew all around the field adding stats in every facet of the game," Roth said.

Adam Audette

Climax-Scotts

A senior standout, Audette helped Climax-Scotts to another Southern Central Athletic Association title and a 11-1 record, finishing the season in the third round of the playoffs.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound lineman led the conference in votes for the all-league team for the second year in a row and helped the Panthers to rush for over 3,500 yards in the regular season.

"Adam will arguably go down as one of the finest offensive lineman in Climax-Scotts football history," Climax-Scotts coach Kevin Langs said.

Logan Hunter

Climax-Scotts

A senior standout, Hunter helped Climax-Scotts to another Southern Central Athletic Association title and a 11-1 record, finishing the season in the third round of the playoffs.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back led the conference in votes for the all-league team on defense and helped the Panthers dominate on that side of the ball, finishing off a career that saw him get 10 interceptions.

" Logan is following in the footsteps of past Panther safeties that have gone on to play the position in college and Logan is as talented as his predecessors," Langs said.

Zack Mobley

Climax-Scotts

A senior two-way player, Mobley helped Climax-Scotts to another Southern Central Athletic Association title and a 11-1 record, finishing the season in the third round of the playoffs.

Earning all-conference honors at linebacker, Mobley was a key part of an outstanding Panther defense that had six shutouts on the season and allowed only three points per game on average.

"Zack was the heart and soul of the Panther defense and was the leader of the defensive unit as he was responsible for making the defensive calls and adjustments. Pound for pound, one of the best defenders in Division 8," Langs said.

Todd Myers

Climax-Scotts

A senior two-way player, Myers helped Climax-Scotts to another Southern Central Athletic Association title and a 11-1 record, finishing the season in the third round of the playoffs.

Myers earned all-conference honors at quarterback and defensive back and led the team in scoring during the regular season as the Panthers averaged more than 48 points per game on the season.

"Todd was the heart and soul of the offense as his leadership and running ability helped the potent Panther attack," Langs said.

Jeremy Scherer

Climax-Scotts

A senior two-way player, Scherer helped Climax-Scotts to another Southern Central Athletic Association title and a 11-1 record, finishing the season in the third round of the playoffs.

Earning all-conference honors at defensive tackles and playing running back, Scherer had over 1,000 yards on offense and was a key part of an outstanding Panther defense.

"At the nose tackle position, Jeremy was the center of a defense that gave up 27 total points in the regular season," Langs said.

Bernhard Rainmann

Delton Kellogg

A foreign-exchange student from Austria, Rainmann had a big senior season as the 6-foot-8 tight end/defensive back helped Delton Kellogg to its first playoff berth since 2001 and a 5-5 overall season.

Rainmann earned all-conference honors as he had five touchdowns at his tight end position and had five interceptions at defensive back.

"Bernhard played American football on a club team in Austria so he came to us with great football smarts. He was a huge addition to our team this year," Delton Kellogg coach Ryan Bates said.

Jake Reed

Delton Kellogg

A three-year starter for Delton Kellogg, Reed helped the the Panthers to a 5-5 overall record and their first playoff season since 2001. Reed is also a three-time all-league performer and three-year captain for D-K.

Reed led the team in tackles from his linebacker spot with 110 and also added 400 yards rushing from his running back position during his senior season.

"He has been that kid that must be on the field for the last three years. This year was no different," Bates said.

Tristan Terry

Galesburg-Augusta

Terry had a big junior season as he helped Galesburg-Augusta to a 3-6 campaign as he earned all-league honors from linebacker spot on defense.

Terry is a third-year, two-way starter for Galesburg-Augusta and finished with 42 tackles on defense while also earned team Offensive Player of the Year with 617 yards rushing from his running back spot.

"Tristan was once again our workhorse this year and is a very good student and has a lot to build on for next year," Galesburg-Augusta coach Tony Smith said.

Ben Kramer

Gull Lake

Kramer was a senior standout on a 2-7 Gull Lake team, earning all-league honors at running back in the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference East Division.

The Blue Devils' workhorse in the running game, Kramer had 812 yards and eight touchdowns during the season and also started eight games on defense.

"Ben had a great offseason and is a hard worker and it showed during the season. Teams came in with their focus on stopping Ben," Gull Lake coach Tim VanWormer said.

Caleb Drumm

Homer

Drumm helped Homer to a Big Eight Conference championship as the team went undefeated in the league season, while helping the Trojans to an 8-3 record overall and the second round of the playoffs.

Drumm earned all-league honors at quarterback for the second straight season by throwing for 2,237 yards and 31 touchdowns.

"Caleb is a great athlete with a strong arm and became a great leader for our football program," Homer coach Matthew Moffett said.

Brock Ridgeway

Homer

Ridgeway helped Homer to a Big Eight Conference championship as the team went undefeated in the league season, while helping the Trojans to an 8-3 record overall and the second round of the playoffs.

The senior was a two-way starter for the Trojans as a standout all-conference player at offensive line and defensive end, where he had 10 tackles for loss.

"Brock became one of the best team players we had by moving to offensive line to make the team the best we could be," Moffett said.

Justin Halcomb

Marshall

An offensive standout on the line for a Marshall team that went 7-3 on the season and advanced to the playoffs, Halcomb was all-conference in the Interstate 8.

Halcomb had a big senior season as the 225-pound guard was a key part of the Marshall running game throughout the year.

"Justin was our best pulling guard and had a breakout season and is a big reason our offense was able to run the ball so well," Marshall coach Jason Stealy said.

Forrest Jackson

Marshall

A two-way standout for a Marshall team that went 7-3 on the season and advanced to the playoffs, Jackson was all-conference in the Interstate 8 and was team MVP on offense for the Redhawks.

The senior had 1,503 yards and 19 touchdowns for Marshall and also earned All-State honors in Division 3-4 by the Associated Press.

"A great kid that worked hard this offseason to become a great player his senior season," Stealy said.

Chris Upright

Marshall

A two-way standout for a Marshall team that went 7-3 on the season and advanced to the playoffs, Upright was all-conference in the Interstate 8 and was team MVP on defense for the Redhawks.

Upright set a school record for tackles in a single season with 128 and also broke Marshall's record for career tackles with 297 from his linebacker position. The senior also had 517 yards and 11 touchdowns at fullback.

"Players like him don't come around very often. This was his team this year and he did a great job of leading them all year," Stealy said.

Ryan Westrick

Marshall

Westrick had a breakout junior season for Marshall as he was a key player on the offensive line as the Redhawks ran their way to a 7-3 season and a spot in the playoffs.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound offensive tackle gave Marshall size up front as Westrick earned all-conference honors in the Interstate 8.

"Ryan was our most consistent lineman and helped pave the way for our running game this fall. I'm excited we have Ryan back next season," Stealy said.

Silver Dotts

Olivet

Dotts had a big senior season as a two-way starter for an Olivet team that went 6-3 and advanced to the playoffs for the eighth straight season, finishing as an offensive leader at receiver and a defensive standout at defensive back.

Dotts led the team in receiving with 535 yards on 21 catches and seven touchdowns and had a big year on the other side of the ball also with 42 tackles and five interceptions at defensive back.

"Silver was our big play receiver this year. He has a great knack for adjusting to the ball in the air and has great hands," Olivet coach Gabe Priddy said.

Chase Martin

Olivet

Martin had a big senior season as a two-way starter for an Olivet team that went 6-3 and advanced to the playoffs for the eighth straight season, finishing as an offensive leader at running back and a defensive standout at defensive back.

Martin led the team with 974 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns and at 160 pounds was still one of the strongest players on the Eagles team.

"Chase runs the ball with tremendous effort. His toughness and character has provided great leadership for our program," Priddy said.

Kalen Stahl

Quincy

A three-year starter, Stahl had a big senior season as he helped Quincy to a 4-5 record in the Big Eight Conference from his linebacker and tight end positions.

Stahl was all-league at linebacker with 80 tackles on the season and was a key run stopper on the Quincy defense, while also coming up with five touchdowns and 287 yards receiving from his tight end position.

"Kalen has the best hands of any receiver I have ever coached," Quincy coach Robert Evans said.

Isaac Mead

Tekonsha

Mead was a standout two-way player his senior season, plus a key contributor on special teams, and earned all-league honors during his senior season for a Tekonsha team that went 5-4 in 8-man football.

Mead had 1,264 yards rushing, 296 yards receiving and also added 382 yards on kick returns to pace the Tekonsha offense, finishing with 21 touchdowns and nine extra points. On defense, Mead had 83 tackles and four interceptions.

"Isaac is the hardest working player on our team and he proves it every game," Tekonsha coach Dave Grohs said.

Jalen Boes

Union City

An all-around standout for Union City, Boes helped the Chargers get to 4-5 on the year by impacting the game from several positions on the offensive side of the ball.

Boes earned all-conference first-team honors in the Big Eight as a receiver as he had 14 catches for 381 yards, while also carrying the ball for 598 yards from a running back spot. On special teams, Boes had four kickoff returns for touchdown.

"Jalen is an explosive football player. He has the ability to go the distance anytime the ball is in his hands," Union City coach Brandon Bruce said.
