Kalamazoo shooting survivor Abigail Kopf has been released from a rehabilitation center in Grand Rapids.

The 14-year-old Battle Creek native had stayed at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital since March 8. In a Facebook post at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Kopf's family indicated that she had returned to her home in Battle Creek.

Pediatric physiatrist Dr. A.J. Rush said Abigail "has made remarkable progress."

"Abigail is talking and walk without assistive devices or orthotics, although someone must be close by," he said in a news release. "She also can accomplish many tasks associated with daily living, including feeding herself, as well as assisting with other aspects of self-care such as dressing and hygiene."

Rush said he expects Abigail to continue to improve "with intensive outpatient therapy." He will continue to oversee her care.

Abigail is expected to undergo surgery to repair her skull.

The teenager is one of eight people shot in a series of random shootings in Kalamazoo County on Feb. 20. Six people died and two others, including Abigail, were injured.

A 45-year-old man, Jason Dalton of Kalamazoo, was arrested and is charged with six counts of open murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder and eight counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Police said he opened fire at an apartment complex, car dealership and a restaurant parking lot.

Donations can be made to the Kopf family through a GoFundMe page, gofundme.com/pqxbwjrw. Her progress can be updated at their Facebook page.
