Battle Creek Enquirer

More than $275,000 in damage was reported from a fire Monday night at the ReConserve Inc. cereal-byproduct recycling plant at 170 Angell St. in Battle Creek.

The fire started about 7:15 p.m. when an end loader with a fuel leak ignited at an entrance to the building. The building caught fire as well, and while Battle Creek firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, damage was estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $265,000 to the contents, including food waste and food manufacture byproducts stored in the building.

No one was injured in the fire, and firefighters said operations at the plant were expected to resume soon after fire crews left the scene.
