Police: Woman awakes to find unknown child in her bed

Battle Creek police said they have located the mother of a 1-year old child after a woman said she awoke to find the child in her bed.

Officers said Sunday morning they were called to Arbor Point Apartments during the night after the woman said she woke to find the child sleeping in bed with her. The woman said she did not know the child and that her 18-year old son was not home but that he did not have a child.

The child was taken to the police department where night shift officers changed diapers and gave the child toys. Later police said the mother had been located and that the 18-year-old son had left the child at the home before going out.

The baby was returned to the mother but Child Protective Services was contacted to investigate.
